Klub Ikon, Newcastle City Centre
One of the bigger clubs in Newcastle, Ikon is located near to Northumbria University and so is a popular choice for students studying there, which may or may not be a good thing, depending on your point of view. The club itself is a converted ballroom meaning people can stand on the balconies overlooking the dancefloor spilling beer onto the crowd below but so far I've managed to avoid this fate. The lighting system in Ikon is definately one of the best in Newcastle and there are 4 bars here - the only fault I can find with this place, barring the drinks prices at weekends, are the strange little twisty staircases down to the cloakrooms - get drunk enough and you'll definately fall and break something...
Monday: Student night called "Union" with cheap entry and cheap drinks. Open 9pm to 2am.

Wednesday:
Thursday:
Friday: "Temptation" with some big name DJ's and inflated drinks prices. £3 entry and open 10pm to 2am.
Saturday: Quite a lot of younger people in tonight. £5 entry.

Diva, Newcastle City Centre
Diva is Ikon's little sister next door and although the two are connected on some quieter nights, it becomes a club in its own right at the weekends. Beware though, this club is very small, only has a tiny dancefloor, and if being accosted by middle-aged women on a hen night isn't really your thing, I'd reccommend you visit Ikon next door for a slightly younger crowd.

Planet Earth, Newcastle City Centre
The first time I ever went here I wasn't impressed, but it does grow on you after a while. Planet Earth has two floors, both with dancefloors, although the downstairs bit actually opens earlier some nights and boasts a groovy looking bar surface with pennies sunk into it! Upstairs is always boiling with really loud music (the hallmarks of a poor sound system?) but its not too bad downstairs and you can usually get a seat there if you score.

Popular with older clubbers, the Stage Door has both a downstairs and upstairs dancefloor and plays a selection of 70s and 80s music, mixed in with the best stuff from today. One night a month is set a side for Emergency Services staff, so if you want to pull a nurse, get yourself down here!
